Post N’ Quote Safety Tips
Our user's have tremendous success with POSTING their jobs and receiving quality, useful estimates and QUOTES from businesses. For your safety please spend some time reading through our Safety Tips. There are many ways to ensure safe business transactions for all of our members. Above all you should ONLY use this website to POST jobs and receive QUOTES/estimates, and ensure that all transactions take place locally and in-person.
You should take these precautions:
- When POSTING or QUOTING, you should always meet in-person after meeting through our site, and you should NEVER exchange funds until you have meet in person with your new client (our user) or business.
- Never send or wire money to anyone. This includes never mailing a cheque or using payment services like PayPal, Western Union.
- POST N” QUOTE and its affiliates, parent company (4Locals.com,Inc.) does not offer any sort of buyer protection programs or secure payment systems. Any emails or web sites that talk about such systems are scams, even if they have our logo, or any of our information. If you receive any emails promoting these services, please forward the message to us.
- Never provide your personal or banking information (e.g. social insurance number, credit card number) to others over the Internet. Never give out your POST N’ QUOTE password, even if asked to do so in an email supposedly sent by a POST N’ QUOTE employee.
- Make yourself aware of common scams and fraud (see below).
- Inform us of any attempted fraud or suspicious emails, ads, or other activity by our members. In case of fraud, file a police report and contact us. (See below for more details on reporting scams and fraud.)
- Use common sense. If something sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
Understand what a Contract is:
A Verbal Contract: A Verbal Contract is a legally binding contract verbally agreed to by two or more parties. Verbal contracts have a hard time standing up in a court of law should problems arise as he said/she said can easily be introduced.
A WRITTEN CONTRACT: A Contract is a legal binding document signed by two or more parties. Any legitimate business will have their own standard contract which they will customize to each job they perform (client). A contract should include things like the total cost of the service/product, terms and conditions (including time frames, job start/end dates, any/all penalties along with an easy to understand description of the services that will be performed and/or the products that will be included or that will be required. If you are unsure of the legitimacy of ANY contract we suggest: that you check the business’ references; seek legal advice; and/or DO NOT sign the document and engage into business with a company/person that you are not comfortable with.
Common scams and fraud:
- You get an email that claims to be from POST N’ QUOTE, or another company and offers buyer protection or an online payment system. These emails will typically request that you send money via this site or provide personal information. POST N’ QUOTE and most other companies will NEVER send out such emails. If you send money via these sites you are likely sending money to the fraudsters.
- Overpayment: A so called company will send you a cheque and then ask for money to be returned to them. Often the cheque will bounce and you will have lost all money you sent to the other party.
- Early Payment: A business may claim that they need a deposit or have other fees just to meet with you. Do not pay such fees, as you will most often never see such meeting and will have lost any money you paid.
- Fake escrow sites: If a user or business suggests that you pay into an escrow site for the payment of the service(s) they will be providing, DO NOT PAY into such accounts. PLEASE NOTE: often escrow web sites are run by fraudsters (even though the site may look "official") most likely you will lose your money.
- 419 Scams: You get an email saying that your help is needed to help take money out of a country and that you will be paid a commission for your help. Eventually they will ask you for money to help them take the large amount of money out of the country and once you pay you will never hear from them again.
How to report scams and fraud:
- If you see a POSTED job on our site or receive emails from other members that you suspect is Spam, illegal, or otherwise violates our policies, please email us immediately with whatever details you may have. When submitting such emails/jobs to us we will review such postings and can take them down quickly if appropriate, and/or investigate them to our fullest discretion.
- If you have replied to such postings the emails with a suspicious request (i.e. asks for money to be sent to them via a payment service), please forward us the email and stop all communications with that person immediately.
- If you are the victim of fraud, inform us and your local police service. As well you may want to contact the following other services:
- Royal Canadian Mounted Police
- Reporting Economic Crime Online at 1-800-495-8501.
